Do you know a veteran who needs help with dressing, bathing, or walking?
They might not be aware of a government program that offers essential non-medical services to help veterans stay independent in their own homes.
For example, we’re helping a man whom I’ll call Clyde, a Vietnam War veteran who needed assistance after his wife passed away. Clyde needed help with daily tasks like showering, dressing, laundry, and sometimes walking.
His brother, Tom, moved from out of state to care for him. But the responsibility quickly became overwhelming. Tom, serving as a 24-hour caregiver, reached burnout.
Thankfully, the family discovered ComForCare Home Care. We assisted Clyde in applying for the V.A.-sponsored “Home Health Aide” (HHA). Clyde now receives 12 hours of caregiver support each week at home, which has helped him avoid moving into a nursing home or VA home. And Tom got the relief he needed.
Veterans often find the typical VA application process daunting, but this program is much simpler. We’ve helped many veterans apply, and our close relationship with the local VA makes things much smoother.
Here’s good news: There are no age requirements. And assets and income rarely present an obstacle to receiving the Home Health Aide (HHA) benefits.
Key benefits of the program include:
- Veterans can keep their primary doctor.
- Caregivers are provided for 6 to 16 hours per week.
- Approval usually takes a few weeks to a couple of months.
With 18 million veterans in the U.S., you likely know someone who could benefit from this support.
It’s your responsibility to lend them a hand by telling them of this program!
