Help My Senior

Easing the struggle of the family caregiver

In a new twist on the century-old practice of doctors who made house calls, high-tech healthcare services are now making their way to patients’ doors.

What’s the cause?

During the pandemic, many patients showed reluctance to visit doctors’ offices for fear of getting infected. Telehealth also increased. Advances in portable medical units and communications is another reason. And then there is the desire for cost reductions.

“I think that there is a real craving for patients to try to achieve care and improve their healthcare outside of a hospital setting,” said Dr. Meeta Shah, an emergency physician at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, according to the ABC-TV affiliate in Colorado.

Colorado-based Dispatch Health has mobile medical units operating in forty markets in the country and plans to expand to one hundred markets.

In-Home Care Can Help

Social workers and other discharge planners should be aware of such in-home care systems in their area.

Equally important are non-medical home care companies, such as FirstLight Home Care of Deerfield/Lake Forest, which has seventy caregivers throughout northern Cook County and Lake County.

One helpful fact to know about a homecare company is whether they have caregivers in a patient’s area. Qualified caregivers are hard to come by, and having a license for an entire county does not mean that the agency has caregivers in every city in the county.

FirstLight Home Care of Deerfield/Lake Forest, however, has well-trained and licensed caregivers in [CITY]. FirstLight owner Caleb Johnson has experience working with various healthcare professionals and is aware of trends and opportunities in senior healthcare.

He can tap into his network of trusted healthcare and senior care professionals, and can refer patients to [COMPANY] as well.
