Help My Senior

Easing the struggle of the family caregiver

If you are a social worker, it’s probably no surprise hearing that your job has many ups and downs.

On the one hand, you know that burnout occurs. But on the other hand, there are many satisfying experiences garnered from years of helping people.

I imagine that one of the rewarding aspects of the job is seeing the results of your work. The social worker’s knowledge of resources and her advice and encouragement delivered to a nervous or bewildered patient and their family go a long way in getting a good feeling about their work at the end of the day.

Alexandra Carre has worked as a social worker since receiving her degree in 1992. She made this remark on the discussion platform Quora in response to the question, “What don’t they tell you about being a social worker?”

18 Years With the VA

“I’ve worked almost 18 years with the VA and I didn’t know anything could be so rewarding and hard at the same time. Each social worker is on their own journey so it’s hard to make a generally applicable statement …. Grow, develop skills, and put the work away when it’s time to go home because you deserve down time.”

The way I see it, the social worker pours her heart out to help others in need. However, this person needs to find some private space in their life that they can retreat to so that they can get away from it all and keep their emotional balance.

FirstLight Finds the Right People

Homecare workers take on similar burdens of the social worker. They help the elderly or disabled carry out simple tasks of everyday life. They must be knowledgeable, patient, and consistent in their work.

These are the kinds of caregivers that FirstLight Home Care of Deerfield/Lake Forest hires. Not everyone has a heart for this work. Those who are simply looking for what seems to be easy work are turned away from FirstLight.
